You invested in your UTV because you wanted a vehicle that could take you places other vehicles can’t go. It only makes sense to use your UTV during hunting season! But there are a few things you need to know in order to have a great trip. Here are some tips to get started. To learn more, visit Sky Powersports Sanford in Sanford, Florida. We’re your ATV and UTV hunting headquarters in Daytona Beach and Deltona, Florida.

Know the Local Laws

Every state has its own rules and laws, and ignorance of the law is never an excuse to break the law. Take some time to review all of the local hunting rules and regulations online before you go on your trip. In some states, UTVs are classified the same as ATVs, and in other states, they’re considered off-road vehicles. Be sure your UTV is registered and insured and that you have the documentation available.

You’re not normally allowed to transport a loaded firearm in a vehicle or discharge a weapon from inside your UTV. There may be exceptions if you have a disability, but be sure to get the appropriate documentation. Make sure that you also have your hunting license and tags.  You can normally hunt on National Forest and Bureau of Land Management land unless otherwise stated. If you’re hunting on private land, be sure that you have the owner's permission.

Be Safe and Responsible

It’s hard to imagine ever mistaking a man or a woman for a deer, but there seem to be hunting accidents each year. Give other hunters a wide berth and make your presence known when you’re on the move. Take your time to line up your shot, and be sure you know where your round is headed if you miss.

Gear Up!

If you’re the type of person who likes to “trick out” every vehicle you own, don’t forget about your UTV! A winch always comes in handy if you get stuck in the mud, and you can always use it to pull your game out of the thicket and onto a level surface to load it up. A cargo rack is a must, and you want to make sure you have all the ropes and tie-down straps that you need. Upgraded lighting packages are always convenient, and you should be sure to get some fog lights. Most importantly, a good scabbard will keep your rifle clean and handy at all times.
